Progress and Flexibility

Recently I have reached a point in my training where I don't seem to learn as many new moves compared to improving my technique, speed, and power. I have learned a variety of different kicks and punches and worked them to the point where they are muscle memory, and just natural reactions. I have been taking yoga through San Ramon to improve my flexibility and I have seen an improvement in my flexibility, range, and power since I began yoga. On top of yoga everyday in class, I have got into a routine of stretching before I go to bed, which has really made the difference. I really enjoy seeing the progress I have made and how far I have come since I started training.

Likes and Dislikes

One of the things that I really like about myself is my personality, I am a very determined and outgoing person that can talk to anybody, and I enjoy learning new things and up to trying new things at all times. Determination is a very important trait to me and without it I don't think I would be able to commit myself to my mixed martial arts training, weight lifting, and school work all at the same time. Being outgoing is also a very useful thing because it lets me talk to anybody that I want to and I never have to be nervous or shy in a situation involving meeting new people.

One thing that I dislike about myself is my patience. Sometimes I just cannot seem to wait for things to happen. I feel like I always have to be doing something or going somewhere, and just always be the most productive person that I can be. This is good in a sense, but it can also be bad, because relaxation is also a very important thing to relieve stress and anger, and help you reflect on your day.

1st Semester

My first semester in iQuest was very successful. I really enjoyed the class and learning what other people are interested in and want to pursue in their future. Many of the blogs are interesting and are full of cool information from different types of passions. I also enjoyed the energy of the class, and I felt like it gave me more motivation to train because i was being rewarded with a shorter school day for my hard work. One thing I disliked about the class was the book we were assigned to read, it may have been my poor choice in the book but I am not a reader in general. iQuest is a great class and I look forward to continuing with my training throughout second semester.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

I am now into my 3rd week of training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and I have to say it is extremely fun and interesting. I now start training at 5:30 and train Muay Thai until about 7:00, and then from 7:00 until 8:00 I train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I am learning a lot of cool things in Jiu-Jitsu and many useful offensive and defensive maneuvers. One of the reasons I really like Jiu-Jitsu is almost every time I have a training session, I learn something new. It is also really useful and a great thing to know.

Introduction to BJJ

Yesterday was my first day that I began to start training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This is another martial art that pairs extremely well with Muay Thai. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that focusing more on ground game and defense, sort of like wrestling. There is a lot of technique behind it and the abilities you learn are amazing. I am extremely excited to see my skills and technique improve and learn a new martial art.

Side Project

This is a book I have just picked up from the library called The Fundamentals of Fashion Design by Richard Sorger and Jenny Udale. This book has nothing to do with my path of Mixed Martial Arts, but it has a lot to do with a side project I have going on with two of my friends. Together us three are planning on starting our own clothing line, and with the help of this book and independent research I believe that I can learn multiple techniques used for fashion design, marketing, production, and more. I am really excited to see where we can take this clothing line and to find out what information this book holds for me.

Achievements and Goals

Up until now my Muay Thai training has been really fun and has taught me some really cool things. Some of my favorite things that i have learned is great fighting technique and stance. This is really important because that will help you in all of your fighting from your stamina to your power. This is also something that you can always improve on so i enjoy constanty training it and getting better. Another thing that I have learned is how to throw kicks with good technique, and this is really useful because kicks are good for power strikes and keeping your range from your opponent. Some goals that I have for the future are to learn inside leg kicks and takedowns, which are extremely useful for taking the fight to the ground or disabling an opponent.
